I know the Tasmanian tiger is extinct. However, some people believe it is still lurking somewhere on the island.

I have just come into Tassie for business. I also like to go hiking in the wilderness. There is also a lot of wilderness in Tassie. If I should see a tiger, what should I do? Should I try to catch it. Is it dangerous? Please bear in mind the tiger is not like the normal tiger. It is only named as such. Do you think I can set traps for it? Just asking.

Check with the local government to make sure what you are talking about is not illegal. If it is thought to be extinct, it is probably protected as an endangered species.

Also, if it is thought to be extinct, what would give you the impression that you might find one?

Hi!
Since the last thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) or at least his paw prints were found in the eighties, your chances are pretty slim.

Taking all this into account, why would you want to catch it? If ever you are blessed enough to get a glimpse, just the fact of knowing that such a prehistoric animal made it through our crazy polluted world, you should thank your lucky stars and keep the picture forever in your mind.

Think, if they could explain the Loch Ness ''monster'', measure and weigh it, nobody would look at that lake the same way! Same for the Taz Tiger!

Let legends be legends, it keeps our imagination going! Don't you agree? It sure works for you!

Traps? ... for endangered spicies? You will really make any live ones go extinct.

Just a photo of it is good enough to make you famous. Set up a motion sensor in a pathway that you think might be good.

There are a lot of local laws for trapping native animals in Australia. Muck around with them and locals may put you on an endangered list

Take lots and lots of photos of it! And, no you should not try to catch it! If you really did re-discover the Tasmanian tiger, everyone would be very impressed....but unfortunately you would still be arrested after you were congratulated, for trapping an animal illegally.

not unless your name is Jeff Corwin. Tigers are not known for being friendly. You must be experienced and you MUST know what you are doing. It would be horrible to find the last tiger left only to kill it during capture.
If you are not a pro, I would reccomend against trying to capture it.
Back away slowly. And hope he isn't hungry at the moment.
