I am a non smoker, here in MI the board is going up to ban all smoking from public places. Even outside and designated areas. I find this offensive and a violation of mans right. Next they'll tell us we cant chew gum in public places because its bad for your teeth and its messy to clean off the bottom of your shoe ;)

As a smoker, I don't have a huge problem with it, really. For the most part we're reasonable folk, realize most people think it's nasty, and are OK with limits (within reason--so long as there's a spot for us somewhere, it's not too much of a problem).

Second hand smoke has been proven to cause lung cancer in innocent bystanders - chewing gum hasn't. I live in MI too, and I hope they do ban smoking in public places, cause I'm sick of having to breath someone else's poison.

Yes. If you want to smoke in your home or car be my guest. Why should I have to endure having it blown in my face in a public venue?

The gum can be next as far as I'm concerned. If one is so irresponsible as to simply discard it on the street then I have no problems with adverse ramifications.

Smoking endangers other people's health, it is not a personal issue. Anything that endangers others should be banned from public places.

Do you think it would be fair to ban the spraying of pre-packaged aerosol fart spray outside the entrance of a public building because I enjoy the smell?
