My doctor gave me a due date of Feb 12th, and the ultra sound person gave me one of Feb 7th. My doctor explained to me that they usually will go with the date that has been determined by the first day of your last period if it is within a week of the date the ultra sound determined. He also explained to me the ultra sound uses a different method then doctors do.
All very confusing I know.

I am also having some trouble with my Due date. See, The first day of my last period was January 2nd, 2006 and according to that I should be Due on October 9th, 2006 which is in a week from now. But the ultrasound is way off from that date. According to the ultrasound results I am due November 25th 2006. More than a month later. That would mean that I got pregnant on February 18th 2006. But I never had my period in February. How is it that could have happened? I got pregnant like three weeks after my mist period? What? I even took a pregnancy test on the 10th of Feb. and it came out positive so how could I have gotten pregnant a week later? It makes no sense. But that’s ultrasounds for you.

It's possible, but unlikely. An ultrasound measures time by how big the baby is compared with how big it "should" be. So if you have a smaller baby your date will be off, if you have a big baby, your date will be off. Chances are that your baby is just developing a bit bigger than the "average" baby so it put your conception at that specific date. My ultrasound said the same thing. But I know specifically when my baby was conceived, and it wasn't when I was on my period. It was the day after. LOL Doctors know this and take it as an approximation rather than fact. They'll tell you that your conception date is on or around this date. If your doc said for sure that your date was X then he made a mistake by not saying that it's an approximation. Doesn't make them a bad doctor, just means they should watch what they say to patients who take their word as gospel. Hope that helped!! =D

It can but i know that they set the ultrasound off a basic average weight of baby which is 7 and a half pounds and that is what they determine how far long you are for an example my first child he was born 7lbs 15ozs they told me my due date was 10-19-01 i went into labor on the 19 and had him at 2:09a.m on the 20th so that was pretty close on the ultrasound. With my second son it was different they said my due date was the 05-05-05 well i never went to labor i had to be induce on the 12th and my baby was 9lbs 8ozs so it all depends on how big your baby will be i am pregnant again and my due date is 10-25-06. so i went to the doctor yesterday and i am 36 weeks and 3 days and they told me i am already a 1 centimeter dilated so that is some factors to go off. I hope this help

It is based on the size of the babys bones and head. It is usually pretty accurate if done early, like in the first 8 weeks with a vaginal ultrasound. If it is off, then it is likely your babys size is outside the average range, or the measurements were inaccurate. Any due date will generally be given a two week window in either direction. The baby will come when it wants to no matter what they put on that piece of paper, just take care of yourself until then!

Not normally. Ultrasounds aren't an exact science unfortunately. Doctors are measuring your baby and then comparing it to the "average" size a child is during that gestational period. However, they could be two or more weeks off on their dates. As you progress further in your pregnance, the doctor will have a better idea of when you conceived. Good luck on your new baby.

Ultrasound aren't very accurate, they go by the size of thebaby when they do it and if youre like me both my kids were pretty big so the date from the ultrasound and date of conception were totally off when it came predicting the due date

Extremely. That is how they determine the date! Remember, it is determine by several factors including how many days in between your periods. My date was a week off, and then I told the Dr. my periods were a 24 day cycle, not the normal 28 (they always have been), and he said "well that explains a lot"!.

I dont really think they are that accurate. I knew exactly when I got pregnant with my first child and when I went in for my first ultrasound they changed my due date to about 10 days later than the date my dr. calculated (which was correct). There is nothing you hate to hear more that someone wanting to keep you pregnant for longer than you should be.

Ultrasounds are usually the besy way to tell, there is lots of room for error though. You can get pregnant on your period though, I did.
