Because W was pandering and fishing for Black votes. If it would have helped, W would have appeared at King's funeral in blackface. Bush didn't attend Richard's funeral because they mutually despised one another.

It would have cost him politically not to attend Coretta Scott King's funeral.
Probably not all that badly, but some African-American votes might have been lost.
Bush was never a fan of Ann Richards and he won't lose a single vote for the Republican Party by not attending.
And hey, that's his right.

because Coretta Scott King helped her husband to change america. She continued in his efforts to bring equal rights to ALL americans, reguardless of color. Ann Richards may have been a great woman, but what did she do to change the course of america? Mrs. King also was married to, and supported, one of the greatest men america has ever known. He should definately have sent condolences to the family. But you ARE talking apples and oranges here.

He publicly and with graciousness expressed his condolences to the family of Ann Richards with the deep respect for the former Governor despite their political differences. It was all over the national news in every form of media. That by far outweighs the impact of a pre-printed sympathy card.

I certainly have no idea,I liked both ladies.
Why does Bush do or not do anything.Maybe
the voices in his head were asleep that day.
Besides Ann Richards was not a fan of his daddy if I remember correctly.

When he was governor of Texas, he couldn't be bothered to support the family in Jasper. What a fake.

The nerve of that guy!!! And I didn't see him in Australia at Steve Irwin's memorial, either! I mean, it's not like he has to run a whole country or anything. Surely he has time to attend the funeral of EVERY single "important" person who dies.

Probably because Mrs. King was married to a very important person of the civil rights movement. Ann Richards did nothing but disrespect Gerorge W. Bush since he got into politics. As typical lib-socialists do, she lied about her opponent, used her great lib-socialist brain to resort to name-calling (a lot of lib-socialist politicians are great at that), and was a complete b*tch to him. Would you go out of your way for someone who treated you like that?

Our opinion of Ann Richards differs greatly. Only thing I ever saw her do in Texas was raise my taxes, and my insurance costs went up because of her.
