I was 7 years old when they rose to the height of fame. Now nobody knows or cares about them. Can people who are 17-20 tell me why they all died out? And do you think that the same thing will happen to rappers or hip hop artists like Beyonce, P. diddy, Shakira, or 50 cent? I'm really interested in how pop culture tosses out the old and brings in the new with every decade. That's part of the reason why I'm so dissapointed in the music industry. I was never a fan of any of these people, yet they just kept replacing them with people who were even worse!

It's all about how dedicated these artists are to the music. If they only care about popularity and fame then, of course they are going to die out. If they totally care about making music then they will last. They need to continually make music and have a faithful fan base in order to survive in the music industry.

the pop craze ended. it does every five or so years. i'm 26 and was in high school when nsync and britney were popular. aaron isn't even in the same category of popularity. the year after i graduated though was probably nsyncs and britney biggest year (2000) with the recoed breakinig album sales and britney becoming more intune with her sexuality. the artista you mentioned were part of a fad. nsync disbanded when during a hiatus, jc and justin decided to release solo records....justin decided he'd never be aken seriously again if he recorded with nsync and they have not made any more music since. britney started becoming less and less of a role model and putting out crappier music.

as for the other artists you mentioned. beyonce has had one heck of a solo career and she had an amazing one with dc3 as well, she's not part of a fad...she might last.
p.diddy isn't going to go away anytime soon....he's a mogul and producer and will continue to work with the new artists that come out, he's not going anywhere.
shakira-had a very successful career in spanish music even before the english albums, even if she doesn't make anymore english music-she's not going away.
50 cent...he's a hip/hop star, he's in a very specific genre...and as long as the genre lasts and he can still keep coming up with new material....he'll last too.

I'm 45, and have seen good musicians come and stay or come and go. I have also seen many "teeny bopper" musicians rise and fall. The ones you mentioned rose when I was in my thirties and fell as I was leaving my thirties. They were pretty typical of the teeny-bopper genre, and therefore had no real staying power. After their teen fans grew up and got lives, the musicians' novelty wore off and they faded into the background... or, as in the case of Spears, got their own lives... I think that serious musicians are more into their craft than into their "fan base," and that is precisely the thing that gives them staying power with the fans... they make good music over and over and over again, through the years. Look at The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith... and music from such bands as CSN&Y, CCR, and The Beatles... the music has lasted, even if the bands, themselves, haven't.

They died out because bubblegum pop started losing its popularity. Things probably will happen to the people we like, but we can keep their CDs and our MP3s and hopefully they make more eventually.
