Hello

Ahh its mating season for them as well. There will a lot more out in sight due to this.

You dont want to strtess him more than he already is and get into this whole him sqirming trying to get away in your arms things going on...

So I would suggest one of 2 ways..

Try placing a box on ts side next to him and pushing or helping him nito it GENTLY.. put a towel in the box,, turn it upright and keep it open but in a dark cool place... if you transport in your car keep heat and radios off and keep it quiet for him...
If you can not get him into a box like that......

VERY carefully using gloves or a blanket pick up hte poor thing and put him into a box... try to keep him imobile doing it.
keep it dark and quiet around him but make sure there is good air flowing to keep him cool.

You need to take him to a Rehabber or call a local VET or just show up at the VETS office.

You should know they do NOT throw the quills you have to get stuck with it. As long as you are careful it should be ok. Watch the tail as that is where most of the quills that get stuck into someone come from... they slap the tail against the target...so look out.

Be aware that it will be very scared and will prob try to bite you as well. He is hurt, you are huge to him and he will be upset. Dont take anything he does like try to bite you or quill you personally... its just all he knows... I have many marks on me showing all the thanks I have gotten over the years from various animals for helping them out! Try not to get bitten or scratched... These animals can carry various diseases and you do not want to be bit... or scratched.

Most pines that get hit do not survive... but if he or she is living then you should try to get them treated.

Many VETS will not touch a wild animal... but if you show up they have to do something and can prob tell you where the nearest rehab or sanctuary is...

Its great you want to help... just what you had planned for a Saturday eh!? :)
if its going to be longer than a bit to get him anywhere you can offer a bit of water in a small bowl by him... else just let it go. Dont offer any type of food though.

Good Luck!

Find a thick fabric and wrap it around the porker. Put the porker and cloth is a large box for transport. Make sure you rub with the quills and not against them. They have barbs on the ends and will puncture skin very easily. The quills are also hollow so if you do get a quill in your skin, clip off the end of the quill to deflate it before pulling it out.

can you roll him onto a sheet or towel using gloves and carry him to vet? the quills will lay flat under your hand if they are smoothed in a trajectory going from the animals nose towards his tail, but there are barbs towards the ends of the quills that could be a problem. Good luck.

Wear HEAVY gloves. Yeah part of the reason is for the quills but the other is for when it trys bitting you. Wrap the porkie in a blanket to move it to where your going to give it medical care.

Throw a tarp over it.
A blanket will work too, fold it so that it's just barely large enough to completely cover the beastie, to be sure you have layers of fabric to cover the quills.
Oh, and they bite, so be careful.
