I know in the state of South Carolina you have to be, but if it's their car, I don't believe so. The insurance on them covers any passengers. But, if you're going to be driving in the teaching, then I believe you do.

check your local laws in my state you need to be at least 22, been driving crash free for 3 years or longer, insurance is mandatory for at least one of you, also in my state you cannot legally buy a car without a driver licence. I say again : Check your state law before you start that way you can avoid any {suprises) hidden in the law books.

Your laws may vary.

As the law stands in the UK you are only allowed to teach immediate family members unless you are a qualified driving instructor.Sorry just pointing this out in case of accident.

The duty for the twist of fate is on the instructor not the studet. no remember the type you slice it it is going to nonetheless arise that it is the owner it is to blame.

it would be good if you where insured on the vehicle because if the person you are learning to drive gets in a fluster and decides she has had enough, and you have to drive if you get stopped by the police and have to produce you documents you wont be insured and consequently get points on your licence

It depends on the state but most states REQUIRE that you have insurance. In fact they will make you sign a form that says that you will carry insurance. You should contact your BMV or DMV.
