Here's a site on 'sports psychology'. Look under "Focus & Flow" it has some stuff on improving focus, controlling distractions. Although a driving test isn't a sport, i think you can still benefit from this site: http://www.psychwww.com/mtsite/page11.html

The first thing you need to try and do is relax!! Remember, it is only a test!! Remind yourself that whomever is going to give you the test, is only human themselves!! Study hard and when you get to the drivers test itself, RELAX!! STAY ALERT, but relax!! You can carry on a conversation with the person giving you the test so long as it doesn't interfere with your driving skills and what you have learned!! Just because you are having a conversation with the instructor doesn't mean you are goofing off, it only means that you are trying to be friendly and relax the situation. But......don't do or say anything that will make the instructor think you are trying to score brownie points. Just stick to the situation at hand!! You will do fine!! Just relax!! Good luck!!

The best way I found to stay calm during my driving test was using a product called Rescue Remedy, which I sprayed onto my tongue before the test and it kept me calm throughout. (however, the only thing was it tasted like alcohol, BUT it does work).

Remember that your driving examiner had to take a really difficult test himself before he was allowed to test other people. Think about him and his test and what a lousy job it must be anyway being driven around the same old places by nervous learner drivers on their test. Have something really nice lined up to do after the test (not involving you driving) and look forward to that. In other words, try to take your mind off your present predicament. I used to suffer from terrible nerves during tests (it was in the plural for that reason!) and when I eventually passed it was because I had to deal with a situation where another driver was behaving so idiotically that it entirely took my mind off my own driving and I forgot to be nervous.

Keep focused on staying calm, by affirming encouragement to yourself. Whilst out on test, think to yourself, this is my opportunity to shine, and do my best. This way, you are putting yourself in control of the test. Think of the examiner as just someone you are driving around, rather than 'the examiner'.
Its very much a case of mind over matter.
If you fear him - and after all, he is only a man, then you lose confidence.

Hope this helps

Theres something here in England called "rescue remedy", and it's a herbal thing that calms you down.
If you take non-herbal medicines that calm you, you run the risk of beeing drowsy...and you don't want that if you're driving.

A little fear will keep you alert. You don't want to run over anyone during your driving test.....

By reminding yourself that if you fail it's not the end of the world and you can take the test again.

Feel confident, if you believe you can pass your driving test you can. I'm sure you have practiced lots, and you only have to believe in yourself.
