As a devote member of Alcoholics Anonymous, it was "suggested" by other members that I join a Jesus Camp. This suggestion came to me immediately after I "suggested" that I could, perhaps, empower my self to stay sober using my God given willpower. The AA members said I have a "disease", and if I use my thoughts to change my behaviour related to drinking the drug alcohol, I will "fail miserably". Only a "higher power" will save me!

Do I need a Jesus Camp to be saved ?

No you do not. I would get to a dual diagnosis clinic at a mental hospital. You just need to get some good counselling and some medical evaluation to see if you have any underlying problems making it harder for you to become sober. If you are wanting to become religious stay away from those strange relgious movements they can hurt you. You can join one of the mainstream churches to get help with religion if you like, but what I really think you need is some good help. Those jesus camps can be really harmful. Join a denomantional church if you want relgion.
Best wishes with your sobriety. The mental health care system dual diagnosis programs can be very good. Sometimes there are other problems like depression that are just making it hard. It is a medical problem and not your fault. It would be nice if praying would help, but it does not. God will be happy when we help ourselves.

We can change our lives if we have a reason, see a need, and are aware of what will happen if we do not. Some people need a higher power because they do not feel in control, and if it doesn't work there is someone to blame. I'm not sure exchanging one crutch for another is a positive thing. I think you will succeed only if you take responsibility for your own actions. Good luck

I think the "higher power" concept is part and parcel of AA. It sounds like you happened upon a group with a particlar, narrowly defined version of a higher power. Maybe you could find a less Christian focussed meeting, or consider an different approach such as Rational Reovery. (http://www.rational.org). Best wishes.

You, and all of us, need Jesus.

Do you need Jesus to stay sober? No, but its easier.
Do you need AA to stay sober? No, but some do.
I have 'worked' with people with addiction who needed a 12 step program to remind them of there they came from and to support them to stay sober. I've also worked with people who, when around AA people, wanted to go and drink because it was a constant reminder of their alcohol abuse days.

Ask Stan Marsh, you got so drunk you ended up seeking help of a brainwash group, and now they are asking you to go to a lobotomy camp? I see a pattern...

No, but you can rely on God ( and should) to help you in all situations. However, I grew up hearing the saying : God does not help those who do not help themselves. And I believe it. First of all, you HAVE to want to change, and then God can give you strength to help you change.

No, you don't need to go there to be saved. Be strong and good luck with staying sober.

i dont think the idea is for u to overcome ur drinking habits.. mayb its for u to realize that THERE IS MORE to life than just drinking.. we may b oblivious of it.. but you will be able to see it through HIS eyes! if it has been 'suggested', than i suggest u to go for it.. (i assume) u dont hv anything to lose? i always tell this to myself..
