The point being missed in the reponses so far is that the weather varies, depending on the location.

If you want a tan, head for the Algarve. The beaches along Portugal's southern coast are not only likely to have highest temperature, but also the warmest waters.

for a prediction for next week in Faro. Scroll down for weather histories.

Faro is not a really a beach town, but there are beach towns nearby both to the east and especially good ones to the west.

Normal it's the beginning of Autumn but these days with so much change in the weather it as been quiet hot in October, i left last year in October and i was still going to the beach, although your best time is July, August and September where Temp. go as high as 40 degrees Celsius, Beautiful country and friendly people also not very expensive, the night life is great, hope you enjoy yourself.!!!

We're leaving for Porto today. It's fairly warm with occasional light showers. The weather is better down south. Be sure to wear sun screen.

You can get tips for your trip in our non-commercial Portugual travelogues: http://www.thetravelzine.com

Have a fabulous time, whatever the weather!

I honestly don't think you gonna get tanned in october over there. It's the beguining of a new season. it rains and it gets windy and cold. It's always going to be warmer then in the UK but it is going to be cold.
Enjoy anyways!
