LOTR followed closely by the Matrix. They are winners in their own rights, both can actually make you feel like you are seeing a story unfold. LOTR wins in story telling, and inspiring scenes, Matrix for the fight scenes and cinematics.

Well, I was thinking books, until I saw your list, and my answer would've been Lord of the Rings. After seeing your list, that's still my answer.
I first read those books back in the 70s, and remember thinking what a great movie they'd make, too bad it would have to be animated. Glad the advances in computer graphics proved me wrong.

Lord of the Rings, hands down. It has all the elements of good story telling, and many stories and movies made in the last 60 years borrow heavily from Tolkien's themes.

If I can only pick from them, I'd say Lord of the Rings
If I could pick any, I'd say Star Wars IV, V, & VI
