I have done well with Toshiba. It is probably the cheapest among the name brands and has all of the features that the other ones have. Other than some idiot once dropping my laptop onto a concrete floor I have never had a performance problem with them and they are comparatively light to carry. My wife and I each have one now and even take them along on trips with no grief.

There is no good Windows based computer, but you could get a Macbook and run Windows on it when necessary.

Just be sure to install all the usual antivirus and antispyware crap on the Windows partition because when you run Windows it will be just as vulnerable as any other Windows based PC.

hp laptops are good as compared to prices,they are cool in looks, functions, i use them and i don't find any backdrop in them
