Avoid the "Learn C++ in 30 Seconds!!!" type books.
The book most recommended to me that I haven't tried yet is Thinking In C++. I'm currently working through Deitel C++ How To Program (5th Ed.), which seems to be designed as a course textbook, but should be fine if you have a programming background.
