Yes, they can. The originating IP address is in the mail headers of every e-mail, whether it was sent from a Yahoo account or any other system. Accessing that information is child's play. Select the mail option to view all headers and you'll see it right there.
They'd need to track you through your ISP to identify you personally. ISPs do hand that information over when presented with a subpoena or other legal process.

anything that goes from one comptuer to another can be tracked back.
when 2 computers are talking they send info back and forth to the ip address.
I think that info is in the headers.... ( which is hidden in most email clients, but is not difficult to read as most have an option to viewheaders....)
the imporant thing is wil; having you ip address do anything for them?
if they are strong with computers , iwould nt risk it

It's piece of cake to find the IP. When you open a message, you can select 'Full headers'. Check for X-Originating-IP: []. Then, you go to www.arin.net or www.ripe.net and do a whois.
To send a message with anonymous IP you need an anonymous proxy. There are plenty of free anonymous proxy lists on the internet. You have to check them, but... if you are patient... you will find one working.
Good luck!

Addendum: you're welcome to digital mail me if i'd be of help.
