Look at the risks involved in doing this. Just because she is menstruating does not mean she is mature enough to properly care for that responsibility. With the severe risks of T.S.S. and the idea of a ten year old purposely inserting something in her vagina seems a little out there. When I was in junior high a girl of almost 12 had to have an ambulance called to the school because she had inserted the tampon in the wrong orifice. I would highly recommend pads, and definitely get her started seeing a gynecologist so what is best for her menstrual flow and body physique can be determined.

A 10 yo may not be responsible enough to wear tampons. They should not be left in too long. I have heard of stories of very young girls putting these in and leaving them for days and then getting Toxic Shock Syndrome. Also, it is good for someone new to periods to learn what their normal flow is like for a while before using tampons - like signs of beginning, heavy, and what ending days are like. If your 10 year old is responsible and reliable, you might suggest tampons for swimming only or for certain days and then pads at night.

I dont think I would let my 10 year old wear tampons. I think they are more for older girls and women.

Yes, she can. Make sure to get the smallest size that can possibly accomodate her flow, like the light or regular sizes. If she knows how to use them, great. If not, tell her to relax and explain it to her. They may be uncomfortable at first, so make sure you introduce them to her like on a weekend so she can sit at home and relax instead of having school.

Yes. They now make a junior tampon for smaller girls - give those a try.

I'm assuming that she's menstruating... it's safer for her to use pads initially but depending on her physical stature it may be best to consult a doctor to know for sure.
