The universe is exploding with energy. From the smallest atom to the motion the moon pulling our ocean tides we have energy all around. So we do not have an energy crisis, we have a creativity crisis.

No actually ethanol is not even close to a complete replacement for many reasons.
1. Production of corn, soybeans etc. has to go up considerably to meet demands of some 100 millions cars.
2. In order to retrofit the gas stations, refineries and cars it would take decades.
3. You won't feel any help in terms of price at the pump for years to come because of the cost of the retrofitting. (price drops are not because of the use of ethanol)
4. Ethanol is more damaging to the current engines so special engines have to be created.

There are much better alternative fuel sources. I have heard propanol can be used in the same way ethanol is without any of the changes to cars and pumps. Of course another source is hydrogen but much of the problems associated with Hydrogen are the same as ethanol. Some even worse, an infrastructure of hydrogen refueling stations must be created and the price of fuel cells must als come down. So no there are no complete replacement fuels as of now. Much of the problem is the reluctance of the government to almost completely change from oil to another source. Big business pays off senators and governors and politicians find something that "works" with oil.

Why are you scared for the future? Your problem runs deeper than what fuel you will use. You are living in fear. You are paranoid because you think your way of life will be changed. People adapt. Thousands of years ago, there were no cars. People got around. In fact, they probably had simpler lives. Look at the Amish. They could not care less about what kind of fuel will be available in the future. And for good reason. They have wisely figured out how NOT to become dependent on the future or the things mankind has invented to make life "easier". And on a final note, it appears that you are placing your trust in others to figure out what fuel we will have in the future. Why don't YOU go out and start working on what you see as the problem? Remember this simple phrase: "Think globally, act locally".

Oh yeah, they have. In fact they found a replacement a long, long time ago. It's called walking, or riding a bicycle, or maybe a horse. But seriously. even if you're just talking about fossil fuels, we have enough coal, oil, etc. to last for a couple of hundred years, by which time you wont have any worries. And that doesn't even include advances in atlernative fuels such as solar, nuclear, hydrogen and on and on. Don't worry, neither you or your progeny are going to freeze to death.

Fuel cell technology and electric cars. BMW has a fuel cell car to be release in 2008 but they will only lease it to consumers. For more on fuel cell technology, check this out....

This technology is going to take some time because there are some companies that are trying to block the way. Think about it, oil companies will lose billions of dollars in revenues if this technology is completely implemented into the world.

There is NO replacement for fuel. Everything you can think of to propel a vehicle IS fuel.

in the longer run it will be fine. you don't have to worry. Yes you are right in thinking one thing that fuel is a scarce resource so we should not waste it. But definately now we have LPG, CNG and electric vehicles.
