USC has a history of clinical legal education that dates back to the 1960s.

Special student-practice rules adopted by the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States District Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court, allow third-year students enrolled in clinical courses to represent clients and appear in court under the supervision of a faculty member.
