can antivir software defend my PC from Trojan like drsmartload? even if i update it everytime?

yes .....anti virus proggies are designed to protect against Trojans,viruses and hijack programs.
you should set the program to automatically update.
also get a firewall it will protect your computer form port scans and it will alert you to any programs that want access to the Internet witout your knowledge.
another good thing to have is real time scanning this scans everything that comes from the Internet and every time a executable is run it will scan for malicious code.
