with the speakers not being amplified can you still get pretty good sound from them?

No , you need an amp silly..if you want a good sound and some loudness..

As long as you have a 3mm jack on your speakers to plug-in the computer. And the sound will only be as good as your Sound Card. You cannot hook up a 100 watt Speaker Set and expect your computer to sound like your stereo.

no, you need a patch cable from your pc to a reciever ... usually an 1/8th inch stereo jack to a left/right rca plug settup will do it ... then you can patch into a boombox or a tv or a regular home stereo....
