The proliferation of publicists and a consolidation of news ownership have contibuted to a dumbed down USA.

I think it's done on purpose. I'm not sure but isn't some of these movie companies own some of these stations it would be interesting if they do. They want us to see the celebrities so we can see thier movies and make money for them. I think its wrong, some of this stuff isn't even news worthy. There is a backlash now I hope it spreads. I would like to see more world news I get world news from NPR and BBC. CNN does a lousy job and another station that brings up celebrity news

people have a hole deep down inside, an empty space they need filled. so they look for an idol, hero what ever show celebs do a half decent job of filling the hole.people have many idols not just celebs, it can be money, a house and a piece of land, a car, etc. if they would come to know the lord the hole would be completely filled in, nothing missing.

I just think people are fascinated by the fact that their fave celebrities are on TV and in movies and that they are rich. Money will fascinate anyone.
