I've been invited to a birthday party for a bloke I know. All he's interested in is booze and music. He lives alone and eats convenience food straight out of the packet.

I don't want to spend much but I don't want to seem rude.

You could hire me. I could get him drunk and dance for him.

Buy him a bottle of tequilla and let him get really drunk. Stop by a trash can and pick up a bunch of empty food wrappeers and scatter them around him after he passes out. When he comes to tell him about the great night of partying you had and how much fun he had. All you are out is the price of a bottle of booze. Good luck.

Buy him a CD. Invite him for a meal later. Or cook for him. If you cook....
Just tell him later you didn't know what too get him and your not a good gift buyer. There is nothing wrong with that. People understand. Most are the same way.Take him to get some fish and chips and to the pub for a drink.

A gift card to a grocery store. A blow up doll to keep him company. Or you could print everybodys answer and show it to him. Just think, you are such a good friend that you posted his birthday on the web and it has been all around the world.

How can you not seem rude to someone you describe in such a manner?
Try giving him some understanding.
(If that don't float his boat try Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'.He'll either get his act together or commit suicide!)

If he's a beer drinker, how about a nice mug (maybe with his name or initials on it)? If he's a liquor sort of fella, maybe a good bartending book with lots of drink recipes. Or you could just go with a bottle of his favorite beverage.

Something special. I think what important is your greeting. People don't care that much for the price of a present, I think. Give him a present and write something sincere for him.
