Because everyone loves a fighter when it's convenient.
And the world thinks America can only fight wars that they approve...usually the ones they approve are the ones where they are getting their butts kicked.

A curious phenomenon... "Death to America"... yet we ship billions in aid when Iran, Pakistan, Somalia, Indonesia, etc have earthquakes, famine, or other natural disasters...
And of course, the UN can't seem to act... and people scream for us to get involved... sure, walk into a civil war ?

They can't help it. Most people are not very bright. They are not necessarily evil, but most people I have ever met were either not too bright, morally indifferent and motivated more by fear than anything else.
I think it explains the state of the world efficiently.

same with Darfur..The UN wont do anything, the Arab countries are all for Sudan govt, and people ***** because the USA does not go in and stop the killing in Darfur.
