It's not made of cotton, is it? If it's 100% wool? So it's probably safe to put it in the washing machine, but DON'T put it in with anything else. Put it in as a small load, and then put it on cold. Then DON'T put it in the dryer, hang it up and let it air dry.

From the New Era web site, http://www.neweracap.com/cap_info/

Cleaning a 59FIFTY...never wash the cap!

The cap is made of wool and you will ruin its shape. To clean the headband, take a wet washcloth and put a little detergent and a little Spray and Wash and gently rub down the headband with the wet wash cloth. After you have sufficiently cleaned the headband of sweat stains and soil, rinse the wash cloth out with clear water and once again wash down the headband, cleaning up any left soap. Let dry and your cap will be ready to go again. Some sweat stains stay in but at least the cap will be clean.

You can buy these plastic hat forms from Wal Mart that help to keep the shape of the hat, they are about $3.00 The just wash them in your washer with nothing else and let it air dry, that should do the trick!
