I don't know whether it's better but at the post-secondary level, coed universities are definitely exterminating single-sex colleges.

About 30 years ago there were many women's colleges and men's colleges around the USA. Now almost all of the women's colleges are coed with just a couple of exceptions.... it seems that very, very few American women want to go to school with just women. And I dont know if there is a single American college left that takes only men.... I guess there might be a couple.

One of my nieces just graduated about 5 years ago from one of the most famous remaining women's colleges. She said that a pretty large part of the students were lesbians and those of them who were not lesbians had their boyfriends living with them most of the time while the dorm supervisors just looked the other way!

So, whether one is better than the other is a question that is probably not going to matter much pretty soon, as there wont be any single sex colleges left..

It depends on what you mean by better. Studies have shown that girls do better academically in an all-girl environment. Htey answer questions more readily, and perform better on tests, because they do not feel inhinbited by boys in the class. An all-boy class performs about as well as a mixed gender class, although again, studies have shown that boys who grow up in an all-male school environment are in fact less likely to be sexist and condescending towards women. THe added benefit of all-boy classes is that they tend to be louder and less "controlled" than classes with girls, as the typical classroom environment is geared more towards girls than boys - no talking, sit still, study for 30-50 minutes without a break.

The down side to uni-geneder classes is the social aspect of life, which could be troubling to some people, especially shy boys. However, all in all, as boys learn differently from girls, and girls need to be comfortable in order to take cahnces academically, uni-gender classes in key subjects, like math and English, are a good thing. And for the person who answered before about teaching all boys, you have no idea what a great dynamic you can create if you don't shut yourself off to the idea of all boys. I hope you are not a teacher, because you definitely do not belong in front of students with an attitude like that.

Well, it depends on the grade level. Sure, I would love to teach an all girls class because they are better behaved, but I would hate to teach an all boys class. They are too aggressive. I think at a young age it is not needed...they can learn social skills from one another. It does not matter if you are a boy or a girl, every person has different learning styles. Sure boys and girls have different interest, but in school, you don't always get taught what you have an interest in. There are standands that must be achieved.

young girls seem to do better in female-only classes. They are more eager to participate, ask questions, and pay attention to academic areas- math and science- that are non-traditional

young boys don't do as well in male-only classes. More aggrssive behavior and bullying takes place. Behavior problems can often become excerbated. The hormone induce distractions of the opposite sex however are removed and can outweigh the previous negatives. Boys do much better in male-only classes if the teacher is male and becomes a role-model

Co-education is much better because the two sides can contribute and help each other in many respects, as for example you can seek advice on how to re-structure your question to make it sound right and elegant!

I don't think is better. I think if we were in unisex education, people would care less about the opposite sex and could concentrate on school better.
