When playing monopoly why do most people want to be the racecar?

One reason could be that it's the only piece that truly makes sense. The only other item that could represent a human (or something that a human would be in) is the boat. And why would that be on land anyway? That's just silly.
Then there's the boot, which is something someone would rather wear than be in. The iron, the dog (which is ridiculous as dogs could hardly buy properties and manage their money), and the top hat.
Whereas all the pieces are avatars and fun in their own way, only the racecar could be considered a literal representation of who you are. Unless you sailed to each street. And that's just silly.
The other reason... Racecars are cool.

My opinion is that the faster you move around the board, the better your chances to buy properties you want, and also collect $200 at GO! and possibly free parking, if you play that way. The other tokens don't seem very competitive for a race around the board type of game , like monopoly. I hope this helps. Personally, I prefer the hat. You can call me "Mr. Monopoly". ;-)

PS whoever said about RACECAR being spelt the same when backwards? Id never noticed that! Thats my thing Ive learnt today lol!!

Racecar never gets used in our house, I like the dog and my boyfriend likes the hourse (that actually sounds a bit dodgy!!!)

I Always wantedto be the dog.
I bourght the new one last week and there is no DOG.
They have a hamburger, Mobile Phone, F1 Car, Roller Blade, Plane, so Take your Pick Mine is now the Plane

The horse is my favorite. Next to the racecar it's the fastest, and you don't have to pay for gas. ;-)

Because it represents power and therefore control of the board/game.
I myself like the boot because i am an old boot or the iron as i am the only one in the house not allergic to it. LOL

The car is the least abstract of the tokens. We can easily imagine ourselves driving around inspecting our properties. Its far more difficult to imagine letting the dog do it for us, or sending out your hat for a tour.:P

I dont,I like the horse because its easier to grab a hold of.but I do remember thats what everyone always picked (the car)

Nobody likes being a dog or an old boot so the race car seems the coolest to be.
