About a month ago my doctor had advised me to start wearing an over-the-counter support pantyhose on a daily basis for some concern he had about my legs/veins.Last week during my re-check he went ahead and wrote a prescription for them.A moderate compression support pantyhose. These are not your average store bought hose.I was talking to a close friend ,she and I see the same doctor. He tried to put her on some meds she could take if she "felt" she needed them. He tried to put me on some meds when my cholesterol hit 195,they could've damaged my liver.Maybe he is jumping the gun.I can see the benefits of wearing support hose. But if I really dont need them daily or at all.I've been in dance for 12 years and have worn tights many times,it didn't really bother me,thats just part of the art.But I feel a compression pantyhose is different. If I have to wear them I have to wear them but maybe I should get a doctors second opinion.Any input???

Are you standing a lot during the day? Working in the cardiac cath lab, a lot of us wore support hose because we stand for hours and hours a day. Those varicose veins are not pretty...

If he's afraid of pooling in your veins, it could be for fear of an embolism. Blood clots are scarey things and should not be looked over.

I don't know your history or why exactly you're needing to wear them- get the script filled and wear them until you can go to another doctor for a second opinion. There's lots of dr's out there, and I'm sure that they won't mind giving you their medical advice. :D

I went to the doctor in Nov of '03. I was on medication for high glucose (that warned against using if one had kidney issues). She proceeded to double that prescription, and write prescriptions out for a kidney failure medication (I had just started my period that day, hence had blood in my urine sample, so I must've had kidney failure), a high blood pressure med (I've since been told that eliminating my 8-can a day pop habit would solve that), high cholesterol meds, and there was a 5th one she wanted me to take.

I proceeded to drop the med that I was taking and never filled the other ones. My energy level increased 10-fold. I recently received a clean bill of health from another doctor. I'm not sure I want to know what my health would be like had I taken all those meds prescribed to me three years ago!
