I would suggest you take a course in massage, visit as many different types of spas in your local to see the layout of the spas. Naturally, you'd want to tryout the different services - to give you first hand experience as to what the spas are offering.
Taking a course in a good massage school is a must if you really want to have a first hand knowledge of what a truley good spa should offer. And a good school will require you to develope a business plan and design your own spa as part of your education.
I have included the link to the massage school I attended in my area, the International Professional School of Bodywork in San Diego, California, ... IPSB is an excellent school with their own Massage Therapy Center . There are several good schools in the San Diego, Ca area - this is just one.
Good luck!
