How come they cannot just spend the rest of their lives together without the marriage? Couldn't they just be like husband and wife without the marriage? I do not understand why people marry each other.

You can spend the rest of your life together but you will be playing house and having pre-marital sex. Marriage is an bondage of two people. People marry because they love each other and they may want to start an family and in order to do that, marriage will take place. Marriage is something that GOD put together and if you don't feel like you want to be with that person for the rest of you life then maybe unmarried will be best.

Marriage has two sides:

the emotional side: youre bound to a partner and share your life, you would like people to recognize you as a couple and respect that. this means men/women cant do any advances towards you or your spouse:

the legal side: emotional bonds are great, but when you start living with someone, you share things like, money, children etc...in the event that you disagree on something someday, you need to be able to prove youre married legally, on paper, so you could pursue your rights in court or anywhere else.

PS: some people will think twice about hurting your feelings if you could sue them in court for it later ^^ with the right papers ofcourse. So legal marriage is basically for your own protection.

AMEN!!!!!
I agree with you whole heartly. Why is it neccessary to have a peice of paper that says you are married cause tht is all it is. Why not be together and not get married. If you do not get married you can live just like you are. All being married does is this. Makes you have to go from filing single to married and the amount you have to pay in taxes goes up. You have to stay with them if you do not like them to try and make it work. It takes money to get divorced from them and if you were just together all you have to do is leave. When i get out of this marriage I am in and I am on my way out now i am never getting married again.. I have been married 2 times and i see things like you . Just be with who you want without the marriage.

I don't think marriage is important. I have been divorced for 11 years and I have been living with my new partner for 2 years and to be honest I am quite happy as we are and don't feel that marriage is necessary. It's just the same but without the legal document.

I partly agree with you. The person who thinks marriage is about "complete and total commitment" is misguided.
I think that divorce is very healthy when it is needed.
It's not all about children, either. There are people out there, like me, who never want to have kids, single or married.
I think marriage is an old-fashioned, emotional thing. Having said that, I like some old-fashioned, emotional things. If I loved someone, I would want them to at least WANT to get married. I imagine it as being like someone giving me flowers, but multiplied many times.
I guess its like wanting a Christmas tree as an adult. It doesn't serve much purpose, but it does warm the heart.

Some people prefer that certificate before starting a family. Others want it to feel they have control over the other. Then there are the ones who believe in the sanction of marriage and all that goes with it.

I think a good marriage is important...one according to God's principles, one that makes both people better because they're together. A marriage that doesn't consider both of these concepts is not important. It would mean you're doing it for something other than it was designed for. And that's guaranteed not to work...

CHILDREN need parents that stay together. Marriage is the legal means to keep that arrangement in place as long as possible. It really has very little to do with the couple themselves. You can do whatever you want.
You certainly don't have to accept that, but that is my take on the marriage thing.
