There is obviously a reason that they are the subject of many horror films and the like.

My grandma has a huge doll collection in her house. When I visit there, they don't really bother me that much during the daytime. I still don't like them though. But I won't go anywhere near them after dark, and oddly enough, neither will anyone else who lives there.

It's mythology as well as history.

See, the original Grimm's Fairytales were really, REALLY gruesome - don't even get me started on what happened to Little Red Riding Hood in the original European version!!!

I think it's the fact that even the cutest, sweetest looking / seeming objects can have a dark side - it's our desire to play with the yin and yang factors. We want to 'poke the bear' - we know the bear will snap but we still want to play and we will poke - we're a poking society. lol.

It's also the horror genre - stephen king has a lot to answer for.

it's also our history - remember John Wayne Gacey? The Killer Clown? That's the basis of Stephen King's IT (So some people will say). The clown who was evil and killed alot of innocent people.

And yes, dolls and clowns are super creepy - also creepy are those white rabbits with red eyes... ew.

I like dolls and collect them.As far as clowns go though, they are very creepy.I don't know what it is about them, but I have heard that most small kids don't find them cute or funny.Rather they are scared of them.I think it has something to do with the make-up especially the way they do the eyes. Did you ever see the movie "Killer Clowns From Outer space.?" It was supposed to be like a comedy spoof. But I found the clowns in it to be the creepiest I've ever seen.Them and the one in Stephen King's "IT". He gave me nightmares ,both in the book and the TV series.

I think it's because dolls are made to look beautiful for little girls to love and play with. All the horror shows changed them into something sinister and possessed by something evil.
Nothing motivates and excites people more than fear.
Children know not to trust a false smile, and clowns are loud, gaudy, have misshaped bodies and feet, unkept, wild hair, and strange voices. What little child wouldn't be afraid?

My guess would be that dolls are life people, but without life; giving them life creates a really unnatural thing.

Clowns, I think, has to do with the fact that it's a person under a mask. I'd say they're far scarier than Jason's hockey mask...those exaggerated features and painted-on smiles are creepier than a simple covered face to me.

Clowns scare me but maybe because The make-up. Just something about clowns that makes so eerie. Dolls are scary because they seem to stare at you. They give you an eerie feeling.

Chucky really made people afraid of dolls (a fear that was already there because they are so damn creepy and lifeliess looking) and Stephen King made us all scared of clowns because of his book (and the movie with Tim Curry as Pennywise) IT. That scared the **** out of me.

I don't know...my stepmom collects the OLD dolls...all sizes, and I can't stand sleeping in the room she keeps them in.

Clowns I think are meant to represent the deformed, or mentally infirm of old, and are meant to look socially threatening.

I still hate the way they look.
