I've applied to a job and the post stated a 3.5 gpa. I was no where near that (I graduated a little over a year ago). I do have some other experience etc. that are valuable. Will they automatically lose interest in me due to this? Is there anything else I can/should do?

Most likely toe employer won't even know your GPA unless YOU tell it.

GPA is only used as a tie breaker. They know they are going to get flooded with applications, so they use the GPA to artificially clamp the flurry.

They won't look at the GPA at all unless they have to pick between candidates that are completely identical in every other aspect.

I have been in the work force for 14 years and I am still waiting to be asked about my GPA for my bachelor's degree.

The gpa shows not only that you know the field, but that you could do well in school and put the effort in. If they get another applicant with the 3.5 and experience you are definitely out, if they think your work experience trumps that, you may get called in for an interview to explain your poor grades. You'd better think up a good excuse for them.

It certainly has a bearing, but how you conduct yourself in the interview will have more of a bearing. And how persistent you are in pursuing the position. Employers appreciate go getters.
