And why is it that in their haste to pass a law that delineates what is and is not torture, the legislators "inadvertently" forgot to carefully elaborate who was and who was not entitled to the right of habeas corpus, while they were trying to be so precise and definitive?
This is a political tool that can be used against ANYONE.

What's so hard about creating simple legislation - just adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The USA is NOT a country based on tolerance for others. It harbors many who want to do harm to anyone who is not exactly like them in appearance or beliefs.

We can keep spending hundreds of billions of dollars killing foreigners who respond to our intolerance with violence, or we could actually try to be decent human beings - show other countries how it can be. That in turn undermines much of the motivation that we currently provide to terrorists.

When someone says "it can't be don" or "it won't work", what they really mean is "we're not prepared to make an effort. We're not prepared to do what it takes to make it work".

There is a difference between our past non-violent responses, due to indecision or lack of focus, and true non-violent positive response - I'd rather solve the underlying problem that lead to 9/11 than persecute the perpetrators. Otherwise, it's going to happen again.......worse.

Of course, if W had brought just 1 single person to trial in a US court, that was directly involved in 9/11, he might be seen as more effective as president. Convicting some deluded soul for lying doesn't really balance the scales for thousands of murder.

The American Constitution in accordance with the Geneva Convention that our former leaders agreed to adhere to, sure doesn't support it. Here is a video for your viewing pleasure...

I am sickened by what is going on in our country...it doesn't even seem like America anymore! We need sweeping changes in the government. I hate how the current administration has divided the country, it's really sad. I'm almost afraid to respond to a question like this! Do you think they'll come & take me away? :)
It's pretty scary that in our country, a thought like that would even enter one's mind!

The GOP doesn't condone torture. They believe that they should be able to question prisoners to get the information they need to protect the US.

They didn't forget anything. They knew exactly what they were doing when they passed this law. They made the law vague so they can go after anyone they chose.
