This is sleep "paralysis" it is when your mind wakes without your body. It happens to me all the time. sometimes ten times a night and it really sucks. Anyway that said if I sleep on my side it is easier and less terrifying than lying on my back. I can usually make some sound and if my boyfriend hears me sometimes he'll shake me that helps. Any movement is the way back. I focus on my hand and try to move that. Once I do it is wrenching to throw yourself out of it like a mini panic attack. This is from studies not just my experience but they do measure up, they say it usually only last for a few seconds( tho it feels like forEVER) and it it usually happens within the first seconds of nodding off. Both true for me I can look at the clock and close my eyes it'll happen pull myself out of it and bam only a minute or two has gone by. I can usually tell what night is gonna be bad. Like a dizzy buzzy feeling when trying to fall asleep. Drugs and alcohol even if they are prescription sleeping pills in my experience will only make it worse. Good luck and you are not alone. They say it's rare but I know enough people to know it's not as rare as they think and it is very real. Oh and by the way It is not some EVIL "salem witch trial demon night terror that you deserve" LOL give me a break. And Astral is a different thing altogther as that is an ability and not an annoying afliction

The condition that you're describing is what is known as "ASTRAL CATALEPSY". Did you also have a feeling of dread or an unseen presence in your room? Yeah, you were either leaving your body (as in astral travel) or just coming back. The astral body and physical body can take a few minutes to fully re-integrate and some strange things happen in the process. You might even see and hear weird stuff...Have no fear, it can't harm you!!! If this happens to you a great deal, you should look into learning about astral travel; you might be a natural!!!

It's called dream paralysis. Many people have had this happen to them, it is a state where you are concious, yet you are hallucinating or still dreaming, you cannot move, no matter what you do. My boyfriend has had this 2 times in his life, each years apart. I do not know how frequent it can occur, but if you want more information, google it.

From what I know of these dreams, it is the cause of astral projection. Astral projection is when you leave your body and wander around, in the simplest terms. And the hag dreams are from you not completely being back in your body which causes the inability to move and the odd feeling. I hope this helps some, and eases your mind.

I use to hear about those dreams a lot. Have u heard of a witch riding ur back? Its the same difference. They say they happen when ur heart has been evil. Just evil to folks for no reason. My friend use to get them every night sometimes. He died young. Be careful how u treat people.
