Why is nobody actually answering your question?

I know several women who smoked during pregnancy and thier children were of normal weight and very healthy. I'm not saying smoking is a great thing to do while pregnant but it does not always cause problems. More often then not, the kids turn out fine.

Am 14 weeks pregnant, smoked for 10 years but quit with this pregnancy because last pregnancy was a miscarriage and didn't want any regrets this time. I have a co-worker that just had her baby yesterday...she was a coffee drinker and smoker...doctor told her to quit the coffee cold turkey and cut back on the smoking as to not cause her body to go into nervous shock...she did cut down, but to about a half pack a day throughout her entire pregnancy....her healthy baby boy was born at 7, 14" 19.5 inches long, no problems and actually had apgar scores of 9's and 10's all the way down the list which is somewhat unusual even for the healthiest babies....NOT that I am advising smoking while pregnant, and this is probably NOT a typical case....BUT jsut to play the devil's advocate.

I was a smoker but I didn't know I was pregnant until i was three months. I quit when I found out cause the smell and the taste made me sick. I noticed that before I found out I was slowly not smoking as much. It was easy for me to quit when I found out. I had a cousin that smoked while she was and her boys had low birth weights and one has asthma.

I was a smoker before I found out I was pregnant.
I stopped when I just thought I was pregnant and haven't smoked since then.
I am 7 weeks pregnant and have no desire to smoke at all.

A friend of mine was pregnant and the doctor told her that the stress from quitting would cause more damage to the baby than actual smoking. He told her to try and limit to 3 or 4 a day.

The baby was born with no probs and no birth defects

I couldn't stand the smell of it when I was pregnant, so my body was self-protecting. But I had a girlfriend who smoked her whole pregnancy and her little girl was born with under developed lungs, asthma and chronic ear infections. How unfair to a life that cannot make any of its own decisions in the womb.

I'm not a smoker, but I would think that just the thought of it while in your first trimester would just make you sicker during the morning sickness stages. I love my beer, but just the thought of it makes me sick. You should not drink alcohol or smoke while pregnant. Try to control yourself...it's not as hard as you think.

Okay my friend smoked during her entire pregnancy at least a carton every week and when her little girl came out she had sooooo many complications. They had to do a cesarian cuz she didn't have any fluid left, she only weighed barely 4 pounds, she couldn't breathe on her own, couldn't eat, and had to stay in the hospital for over a week. So please, please, please, stop smoking our at least cut way way down. when you smoke the baby doesnt get any blood or oxgen to the placenta and it slowly kills them. A cigarette is not worth the pain u will later go on to find. PLEASE STOPPP!!!!

My mom was a pregnant smoker. I had asthma and low birth weight. Then I passed the asthma gene down to my 2 daughters. Please don't smoke when you are pregnant.

Yes I smoked a little while I was pregnant--not everyday--but yes I did. My husband was deployed and I was stressed. I was honest with my doctor--she was okay with it. AND--my son has no problems.
