It makes a mess because it works. Be carefull when setting your blade height.

It wasn't a blade, it was a attachment for a Snapper lawnmower. It was worthless. Sure, the "fingers" did "flick" away an occasional lump or two of thatch, but that was more for the user's psychological benefit than anything else.

The thing that DOES work, however, is the dethatching attachment for the MANTIS tiller. The spindle carrying the "fingers" spins by engine power, and it really does the job- you get foot-high piles of thatch at the end of every row that you walk.

Hire somebody to do it. By the time you fight to switch blades then switch back, (al least 10 - 12 drinks/beers) the trouble won't be worth the results.
