Faxing is obsolete technology. The resolution is too low, it is not secure, it adds to long distance charges, and it wastes paper and toner/ink.
A much better solution is to use a scanner to create higher resolution black and white PDF (Adobe Reader) files of documents. You can email them to anyone and everyone and have a record of the email, the recipients can choose to print out some or all of the document so they don't waste paper, and there are no toll charges! What's more, emails are less likely to be seen by prying eyes, and since you've already scanned the document, storing it is easier and safer (you do make backups, right?) than paper. If you want even more security, use a Macintosh instead of a PC and you won't have to worry so much about viruses and hackers!

All you need is a modem, which most computers already have.
To install the Fax component
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
You will be able to send FAXes of very high quality from any application. Just select the FAX as the printer under print options.
Avoid PDF.
