Here's the thing:

The future of man in society regarding science is left to three conditions:

1. The expansion of the internet as the repository for all human knowledge. (internet science)

2. The commodity of a work-free society in which the automation for the production of consumer goods will be top priority. (this goes with automating technologies and robotics since the internet will allow more people, if not all, to be educated and therefore a cheap labor force will not be needed to serve you McDonalds, as an example, and so all those low-level jobs will be discarded)

and

3. The longevity issue at hand imposed on the advancement of medical procedures, conditions and treatments.

So science will transform us into an educated society where menial duties will be left to automatic processes (not robots like the jetsons, of course, but think of it as an automatic car wash...we'll have something like an "automatic waiter"), and once these are established we will plug into the new society through our increased longevity thanks to much complete and appropriate medical treatment and death postponement.

Hope this helps.

Without man in the future we would not have society or science - we need humans to evolve and commit to science in the future!@

watch Children of Men!! or read the book it was based on... it's great!! .... i guess it does have links to science anyway.... that they will be complete failures?

Mario e's 2nd point is a good one... and then what will happen to the countries who rely on cheap labour from non-eu migrants? there will be so many people living there with even less jobs to go around......
