What does the phrase 'vinnies bin' mean in Australia?

Is it like Goodwill, Salvation Army, or Disabled Veterans? (I saw it in an answer earlier) And where do people in other countries donate their unwanted items?

A 'Vinnie bin' is a big metal container type bin that u put unwanted clothes in. Then a truck comes & collects the clothes (when they get around 2 it) takes them to a st Vinnies store which sorts & prepares them for sale in there second hand clothes store.
