In clear space, 300 meters is probably not too far. It all depends upon the number of wallsand other objects in the way. You can buy an external antenna or a signal booster for your router to increase the range.

not a chance with normal routers!

30 feet is about as far as a basic one will go. I believe you can enhance it, at least in one direction, with a Pringles tub stuck on the ariel and pointing towards the PC.

But the PC card also needs to be able to reach that distance. I don't fancy your chances I'm afraid. I'm sure there is an alternative using some kind of booster at either end, but I don't know what.

If you haven't bought a router yet get a 'phone extension line, it is cheaper by far. Probably more reliable too.

Well, it depends on what type of router you've got, and there quite a lot out on the market nowadays, and it also depends on what speed you've got. I've got a 'MIMO' one, (the fastest you can get) and that really does go far.

It depends on a number of factors. Which class of radio are you using? class G radios are higher transfer rate, but have higher attenuation. Class A and B have less attenuation of signal due to length, obstacles etc.

The drawback is that the more you increase the range, the more chances for others to hack into your system. Keep your security up to date and well monitored.
