Chuck, I am more concerned about arrest and detention - with out a right to appeal it - being applied to American Citizens indescriminatley.
There is nothing to assure a legitimante citizen won't be wrongly arrested and tortured.
This has already happened to one Canadian that we KNOW of. That midnight knock on the door is more of a reality.

Republicans are allowing a few terrorists to change the very essence of our country and make us so afraid that we no longer even know who we are -- or what we stand for.
When the going has gotten tough, and our nation's heart and soul are on the line, it's the cowardly Republicans who have truly cut and run.

Our civil rights are definitely being eroded. The Democrats are fearful of being labeled as supporters of terrorism (which is Cheney's gameplan) or as unpatriotic if they were to actually speak out against this. We need a hero. There is a mass day of protest planned for October 5. The politicians in Washington need to know that if they speak out against this sort of thing, that we will have their back. Do what we put you in office to do.
Impeach him now.

NO it is not true, prisioners of war have never had habeus corpus. There was not a single German or Japanese prisioner in WWII allowed those rights and the world did not end and the President at that time was not a dictator but actually declared one of our better presidents.
When they government did violate citizens rights by rounding up all Japanese Americans, they were not given Habeus corpus rights and they even lost all of thier property, but yet in the time of war the President was praised for this during a war by citizens that knew that War meant killing and defeating an emeny at what ever the cost.
But after the war, there were no loss of rights, the President did not become a dictator.
What is very scarey is trying to give rights to POW that is not required by any treaty and that would destroy a governments power to fight a war and win it.
So habeus corpus was not taken away, since the people that are POW never had it to start with.

"Can it not be said Republicans and some dems support a Bush led dictatorship? "
Definition of dictator... person exercising absolute power, esp. a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession.
Definition of dictatorship... a country, government, or the form of government in which absolute power is exercised by a dictator.
No. What you are experiencing in the US is not a dictatorship. The Constitution does not allow it.
"Chuck, I am more concerned about arrest and detention - with out a right to appeal it - being applied to American Citizens indescriminatley.
There is nothing to assure a legitimante citizen won't be wrongly arrested and tortured. "
The Reality is....
The November 13, 2001 Presidential Military Order gives the President of the United States the power to detain certain non-citizens suspected of connection to terrorists or terrorism as enemy combatants.
Non-citizens.
On 29 September, 2006, the U.S. Senate approved a bill which would suspend habeas corpus for all non-U.S. citizens determined to be "unlawful enemy combatant[s] engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States"
Again, non-US citizens.
"This has already happened to one Canadian that we KNOW of."
In case you missed it on the first round, read again...
"a bill which would suspend habeas corpus for all non-U.S. citizens *determined* to be "unlawful enemy combatant[s] engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States"
Why was the Canadian being held, on what assumed charges? You are absolutely certain beyond any doubt that this Canadian is not guilty of engaging in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States?
We are in a war. Our country is attempting to give our interrogators, our troops and our intelligence agencies the tools necessary to be successful in that war. Why is it you have a problem with that?
Boy, just when you think you know it all it is disheartening to realize you actually know very little, isn't it plank.

There is no dictator in America The man was elected twice he has two years left to his term and can never hold the office again.Suspension of habeus corpus? Those in question never had it.It is common to suspend it in war time for the enemy because it is not a police action it is war and evidence is not gathered while bullets are flying.FDR did it Abe Lincoln suspended it for the whole country not just the enemy.
You people don't even know what you are talking about how can you make judgmental statement that are based on lies and ignorance.

Denying habeus corpus maybe a dangerous thing, but there is no dictatorship. Bush will be out in 24 months. Very few dictators have constitutionally established term limits.

Abraham Lincoln suspended habeus corpus for ALL people during the civil war, and we got it back.
These are very dangerous times that require extreme measures. I'm thankful we have a real man in the White House that will stand up to enemy.

I bet you do not even know what the term "habeus corpus" means. President Bush will be in office for slightly more than two years. The US has a Constitution. President Bush cannot start a dictatorship, even if he wants to.
The US has to fight terrorism and terrorists by any means.

Your statement only proves, you don't know what a dictatorship is.
Terror suspects from other countries do not and should not have the same rights as Americans. Those who are American and caught here should and do have their rights. However, if they are caught outside the Us, ploting or carrying out threats, they should be treated as any other enemy combatent

Its a shame, you have not lived under a Totalitarian regime,
if you had , you would worship, this country, its people and
our President. People as ignorant as yourself and those who
pretend to be informed, should live in a truly oppressed country.
That way you would know ,what you are talking about, instead, of just flapping your lips to make noise.
