some one suggested it was the space flight to the moon in 1965

I think it was a picture of Winston Churchill, on 24th January 1965 (this was a one off when he died - not even the Coronation was able to do this!)
and the front page adverts ended for good on 3rd May 1966.

As photography wasn't invented until the 1800s, I'd say that there wasn't a picture on the front page. I think it was just text.

According to wikipedia, the paper only started printing news on the front page in 1967!!

So who knows
