www.t-mobile.com/coverage
I would try T-mobile. Every time that I have been to Chicago, coverage has been amazing. 5 bars inside and out, in basements ect. They also have the cheapest plans of the large companys, and give you, in some cases, twice as much minutes for your money then the larger companys like verizon and cingular. They have the #1 customer care too.
They are also coming out with 2 awesome new features this month! You'll have to wait and see what they are though.
But go to the site above (www.t-mobile.com/coverage) and put in your adress, home, work, ect, and see how good of coverage you have. If its good, I would go with T-mobile for sure. (They are also releasing a new, really nice/updated Razr soon, if you like that phone. Otherwise the Samsung T629 is an amazing phone)
Hope I helped

I have used Cingular, for 15+ years, and have had great service. During 9-11 when all the cells phones went down Cingular still had service.

Any company would be good in a big city - but I would say VERIZON for service, phones, and network.
