The audio of a dvd , from the lower end of the quality scale, is in stereo format, to the upper end of the scale in DTS sound. A home theatre system can do full justice to the cd quality sound from both these sources.
In comparision, the audio of your TV program, though it might be stereo(rarely), is still in tv quality sound, which is at the rock bottom of the audio quality scale.
