what percentage does an agency get paid by someone using their services. my husband is getting £6.50 an hour by the agency whilst on a permanent contract for a delivery company. the permanent staff are on £12.00 per hour. the delivery company say it is costing them more to pay for my husband via the agency but they cannot offer him a position as they are under contract from the agency. i'm not sure it is not cheaper to use him like they are. can anyone answer please.

If your husband wishes to work for this company as their employee he may do so. He will need to look at the contract to see what time must elapse before the agency are no longer in the loop. Most of them specify 6 months but some specify 12 months. This is so they can charge an introduction fee to the company if they take the person on.

The company can still employ him though, the agency cannot prevent it.

The wage that your husband is paid is what he agreed with the agency. It is difficult to gauge what to agree to if you don't know what the going rate is. Research the company and similar companies to find out the going rates for a specific job.

Good luck.

I have worked via agency's for many years, I have always been paid much more than the companies regular wiorkers.
I remember one time my agent called me and offered me £1k to sign on permanent with the company I was working for, the agent was going to accept £3k to release me, sounded good until I saw what my drop in pay was going to be, so I looked around and found another agent and another company!!
Agents are just 'body shops' they make a very good profit renting out bodies, thats all, nothing very clever about that, they are not there to find us jobs, they are there to make money out of our labour, same as the company!
The obvious advice is let your husband carry on as he is , but keep looking for a better deal via a different agent!
Your whole deal sounds wrong, all agency people get more than the permanent workers, you have your facts wrong some where???

If you are doing agency work, then you should generally get paid MORE than your permanent counterparts. This makes up for the temporary nature of your employment.

If I were your Husband, I'd look for permanent work either at another company or do agency work elsewhere for six months (Or whatever the cooling off period is) and then apply.

Ideally - I'd suggest using another agency.

On average the agency will charge 3 times what they pay the employee, some agencies exploit it even further.
