there can be different reasons leading to that. one can be cpu cooling sysmtem that might be malfunctioning, it causes high temprature of the cpu which leads to restart without any prompt. the other can be caused by your memory (RAM), or simply by a virus!
there can be many more reasons, but these are the most common ones

get http://pclinuxos.com and restart with the CD in the tray. If the system boots andruns without shutdown, it is your Windoze Virus...

hit the install icon, on the PClinuxos desktop, and let it kill the drive.

If the same problem persists, it is a fan/peripheral device problem, in thermal problems... slow fan, or frozen fan... replace...

My bet is a boot sector virus, only affects Windoze...

Microsoft runs all their computers, some 45,000 of them, on Linux... 50X faster! NO virus!

1) Faulty RAM - an excellent RAM diagnostic can be found here if you have a CD burner

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

2) Overheating. Look in your computers BIOS (On startup usually hit DEL to enter setup), look for a system health option and see CPU temperature. anything above 65º is bad
