I am wanting to find an old freind how do I go about this?

I only know her unmarried name, and she lived the last time I heard about her, somewhere near York, in Yorkshire England

try a site called friends reunited here in england.if you have her maiden name+have a good idea how old she is,theres a good chance you will find her.also there is a local papaer in york called the york gazette i think.you could post an ad in the personals.maybe her or one of her friends would see it?
