Deficiency diseases can cause a purple color on a plant. I would give it some MiracleGrow (only about once every couple of months. MG has all the macro- and micronutrients that plants need.

Another thing, watering it too much can inhibit the uptake of nutrients by causing the microscopic root hairs to rot.
