'Chicken guinea' fever -- a disease that has affected people in some villages of Chhindwara and Betul districts in Madhya Pradesh -- has nothing to do with chicken or bird flu.
Chicken guinea, also known as fowl pox or viral disease of chicken was identified in seven districts of the State.
Kadapa is the most affected district, where 38 cases tested positive for chicken guinea, four for dengue and two for both. In Kurnool, four samples were tested positive for chicken guinea. Other districts where positive cases were identified include Chittoor, Anantapur, Nalgonda, Prakasam and Guntur. In the twin cities, 31 cases were tested positive. Totally 160 cases were identified as affected by the disease in the State.
It is a type of fever characterised by severe body ache and bone pain, chill or hot stage, thirst, nausea and vomiting, headache and perspiration. It is caused by a virus which is transmitted to human beings by a variety of mosquitoes. It is not a very dangerous disease, but precautionary measures to be taken such as drinking boiled water, having hygienic food, avoiding stagnation of water near living places, etc. Though there is no any anti-viral drug, some homoeopathic medicines are found to be effective for this disease by a team of doctors of Andra Pradesh of India. And also they found a homoeopathic medicine "Eupatorium Perfoliatum" as a preventive drug for Chicken Guinea Fever"
