I read the paper this week and ST Austell in Cornwall already have christmas lights up (not on though) because they were stored in a building which is now demolished and had nowhere else to put them!! How silly and embarrassing to start Christmas in september?!

That's St Austell 4 ya...I lived there from 2000 to 2002 (now in Weymouth) and to be honest the developments that are going on in St Austell can only be for the best, as the town was soooooo run down

what is wrong with having the Christmas lights up? It would be tacky to have them "lit" as I agree that it is much too early for that, but just having them up I don't think is a problem. Lots of people leave their lights up all year round as it's a big hassle to have to keep putting them up and taking them down each year [weather conditions, etc] Just because they have put their lights up now doesn't mean they're celebrating Christmas now.

Yeah its a bit early isn't it? They are already stocking christmas decorations and stuff at department stores, but they always put christmas stuff out early don't they? I like seeing all the lights around though!!

Some stores in the New Orleans area have already started to display some of their Christmas merchandise, and it is only Sept. 29th.

Christmas seems to be starting earlier and earlier every year. Soon it'll become an all year celebration! The stores will be unmanagable, and people will fight over Elmo dolls for 12 months. *sigh*

My partners mother never got round to taking half her decorations down from last year.

And several pubs in Exeter have started putting this years decorations up.

As long as the decorations don't affect the brewerys production of Tribute I have no problems at all with it

How embarrassing is it? Well... it is as embarrassing as seeing a car pass by you. Boring. It's alright to hang it up now, maybe even smart? You'll save time doing it towards the busier times- holidays. There'll be the holiday crowds.

In our town they didn't take them down from last year to cut the costs of man hours and extra wages, we've had Christmas every single day so far this year and its enough to drive anyone mad.

I live in Canada and now that we are getting into October, any weekends that are still warm-ish you will find people out and hanging up the lights while they can handle them without gloves on, or getting ice cold hands. They don't turn them on, just getting them up when it's half-decent out.
