I noticed bluffmike mentioned this in one of his answers to a female rider and would like to know where this can be taught. (Mrs Paughco asking not Paughco)

Here's a link that shows a 5'3" woman picking up a KrautRocket.

Let me preface that even after watching this, I could not pick up my bike (the same one she has). Guess I need to practice - it obviously can be done.

Okay, I once saw a very slender 5'2" woman lift a BMW R1150GS (a huge machine with a high center of gravity), and here's how she did it:
1) position yourself on the upside of the bike (tank and seat side).
2) Lift up on the seat and tank until the tires are in contact with the ground. (this should be easy since the frame, engine and swingarm are acting as fulcrums).
3) keeping one hand on the bike to keep the tires down, reach to the lift handle (all bikes should have this handle to assist in putting the bike on its centerstand). If your bike does not have a lift handle, you can grasp the upper edge of the frame (not the molded bits or the bolted on bits).
4) grasping the lift handle with your free hand, release the hold on the tank or seat (from #3) and turn around so your back is to the bike. You are now holding the bike with both hands behind you, grasping the handle (or upper frame), your legs are in a squat.
5) Now, slowly straighten your legs while holding on with both hands (the wheels are now the fulcrum of the machine) and the bike should lift up. When your legs are straight, lean back to bring the bike to verticle. Be careful not to lift too far or it will drop to the other side.

Of course, the best way is to get the brawny, brainless guys you are riding with to do it for you. But if you are alone and have to get that bike up, this is the way to do it.

They demonstrate this technique at the BMW booth at motorcycle shows. If Beemer is gonna be at the show, then go there.

Cheers, and happy riding!

First off I think if I 51 year old guy dropped a big machine I might not get it back upright. Front end crash bar helps by holding the bike at a angle you can grab the rider handle and handle bar squat down lift with your legs throw your hip aginst the seat as you go up. Then the bike falls over to the other side Sorry! It is not easy here in texas there are plenty of nice people picking up bikes for other people every day

Like a guy, get help. If it is doable at all, it is best to get on the seat side of the downed bike facing away from the bike, with your hands reaching behind lift it up slowly. But there are 2 tricks to contend with, first; do not ot to go too far, or you will send it the other way. The other is you have to turn your body around while keeping the bke up, not going back down or over the other way...Charlie

For a first bike, it could be sturdy advice. i began on a small bike (Kaw 500) and once you're on it, if it tilted previous 40 5 tiers, it changed into problematic as something to perfect. My dad has a very classic and that i do not understand many those who ought to easily p.c.. one up truthfully. rather of dumb guidelines like that, she ought to easily vacation a bike she feels gentle with. you're not to any extent further going to get a lot smaller than a insurrection if she will be able to't p.c.. it up. I said a lady (regarded about one hundred twenty lbs) at Rolling Thunder who changed into driving a smooth tail deluxe and she or he needed help backing it right into a motor vehicle parking area. i imagine it really is only stupid.

Depending on the size of the women and the size of the bike it might not be done. However, most of the time I can pick up one by getting my back against the sit and place my hands under the sit. Bending my legs stand up by pressing against the bike. Sometimes this works really well. Be careful when you get it up not to over do it because it could fall on the other side.
