Yes, you can join a Lodge. The "study course" there consists of the three degrees of Masonry and learning proficiency materials between each degree. Rest assured that 75% of everything written on the internet about Freemasons is crap.
There have been two excellent and very reliable books published recently:
Freemasons for Dummies
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry
And you can check out this website:

Or, call your local Lodge and ask to talk to someone about it.

There are a lot of books on freemasons. That might help. You could alway ask some what that is a mason to help you, you never know they might talk to you. Maybe not tell you everything but somethings.

if you ask at most masonic lodges they will willingly show you around and explain things. its more a society with secrets than a secret society
